People want release dates because they're tired of seeing games announced years in advance. The expectation for E3 in the past was that you'd mostly be seeing games you'd be playing before the next E3 came around. If there's no date on the game at this point it pretty much guarantees that the game won't be releasing in the next 12 months.

You are right about social media and engagement. You are also right that there always was something to be outraged about. Humans are tribal by nature. However, you are wrong or rather looking at the issue on a surface level. There is absolutely a culture war going on currently. I am surprised you don't see it. This war permeates every facet of society - primarily entertainment. Entertainment is the new secular religion for the masses. There's a reason we see an objective decline in every stream - gaming, movies, lore, comedy. The ''modernization'' or remaking for ''modern audiences'' and failing miserably every time due to injection of ideology. Star Wars is the perfect and most visible example of the destruction of legacy and fundamental story elements. Comedy is also under attack. There's an absolute intentional degradation of values and blurring the line between ''good'' and ''evil'' or what's objective truth. There's a push for multiple ''truths'' now each as ''valid'' as the other. There's no other time in recorded human history where in principle you have access to almost every person's data and every facet of their life. Corporations have access to pretty much almost everything about you that makes you the person you are. Your interests, your hobbies, what you spend your money on, your medical history, etc. And if you think people are not being cancelled for having certain opinions, you haven't done your research. People absolutely tried to destroy Jordan Peterson as well as many other speakers who don't have the ''right'' opinion. They just failed. Because one comedian managed to pull through doesn't mean that many are not cancelled. Social media platforms 100% push a specific ideology and political leaning. I am not even advocating for one political side over the other. We are seeing incredible polarization and bubbles formed. Centrism or bi-partisan conversations are becoming an absolute rarity in the West. You are either left or right. And there's absolutely a crisis of masculinity. How do you otherwise explain entire sub-groups of men predicated on rejecting their biological imperative and women entirely? Demonizing a gender or a race is a very convenient excuse. How do you explain the stats for men failing on every level - education, poverty, etc. why are suicide rates so high? What's your explanation?

Going to disagree with your opinion on release dates. While I do agree that they do not need to be specific, a general guideline should be fine. There is nothing stopping a team from announcing a delay but having a rough plan in place shouldn't be some kind of pressure cooker to the devs. You have the timelines already. There is nothing wrong with a delay but until a studio builds up that "Nintendo" rep where, it will be ready when it's ready is acceptable, they should have deadlines. Simple truth is that if I could trust dev's and publishers to not pull shazz like Redfall I would also agree with you to an extent. The big issue as I see it though is this. As an adult, who is comfortable, I don't really care personally, ANYMORE. I can just buy a game whenever I feel like it. As a kid and a young adult that had to buy his own games and was not comfortable, it gave me a timeline and a goal to work for. I had to plan and make sure I had the money set aside for this, and those expected release dates made it so that I could purchase games at the same time my friends got them.

I love the fact that stims were a matter of fact item and not EXPLAINED.

They looked samey because the games are largely samey....just different IPs slapped over them. That's not necessarily bad, but you're going to get repetition when a concept mechanic is successful and popular. Besides, many developers use the same engines and the basics of the play mechanics are similar, too. I don't expect to play a third-person game like Guardians Of The Galaxy and expect it to be super-different from Jedi: Survivor. Sure, some stuff is different, but the overall concept is samey. Personally, I'm ok with it as long as the IP and world-building captures my interest and the mechanics are solid.

Personally, I think it’s weird that MachineGames is a weird choice for Indy in the first place. Indy really isn’t a property that lends itself well to FPS mechanics so I just don’t get why they were picked for that in the first place.
